Creating new templates

Learn how to create templates for emails and SMS using Engage's easy-to-use drag-and-drop editor with these step-by-step instructions.

New templates can be created from scratch for Emails and SMS. To create them, navigate to Templates under Experiences on the left sidebar.

Creating templates for Emails

Go to the Email tab and click on Create New Template in the right corner. The template builder will open up. It’s an easy drag-and-drop editor where you can drag the elements you like on the screen and they will get added and edited.

Steps to create an email template

  1. Name your template on the top left corner

  2. The template builder consists of various elements for building design, images as texts that can be viewed on the top right corner, such as:

    1. Content - It consists of columns, buttons, dividers, etc

    2. Blocks - You can add text blocks, address blocks, and more

    3. Body - For the main body of an email. You can select the text, background color, pre-header text, and more

    4. Images - You can find stock images via our native integration with Pexels, Pixabay and Unsplash. These images can be added and edited in your emails via this

    5. Uploads - Images can be uploaded in the tool and added to the email.

  3. Once you’ve added all the desired elements, you can click on Audit to see if all the design and content elements you’ve added are working fine.

  4. Upon completing the design and content for the template, you can click on Save Template in the bottom right corner. Once saved, the template will be visible in the template library.

  5. You can also send a test email to yourself to view how the template would look, or preview it directly in the app.

Creating templates for SMS

Go to the SMS tab and click on Create New Template. The template builder will open up where you can add your SMS message content.

Steps to create an SMS template

  1. Name your template on the top left corner

  2. On the right corner, type in your SMS message. You can use merge tags to personalize the message for all your users. Some merge tags you can use are Name, phone number, address, and more. Learn more about Merge tags

  3. The character limit for an SMS is 160 characters which utilize one credit. But you can add more text that would be automatically counted as more credits.

  4. Once the content is made, click on Preview in the bottom right corner to see what the SMS looks like.

  5. To save it, Click on Save Template.

  6. You can now view the SMS template in the library.
